Joan Rodriguez Hernandez, born in Havana, Cuba, in 1992. After 8 years of study he graduated in 2011 as Ballet Dancer-Professor at the School of Ballet in Cuba and has taken workshops taught by choreographers and teachers from different countries.
From his time as a student he was feeling a special interest in contemporary dance, and began to dance professionally once he graduated. He was part of the Danza Abierta Company for almost three years, and at the same time he was collaborating with other companies.
His first experience dancing in the United States was in June 2013, where in collaboration with the University of Arts and Sciences in Alabama, participated in a work of dance-theater that was presented in Tuscaloosa and New York. Then he start working on the young Cuban company Malpaso Dance. In this company he was working under the direction of Osnel Delgado, resident choreographer of the group, and had the opportunity to work with Trey McIntyre and Ron K brown, two American choreographers. From 2013 to date he has danced in about fifteen cities around the United States and Canada. He has danced in theaters and festivals such as The Joyce Theater and Guggenheim Museum in New York, The Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in Massachusetts, The Yard in Martha’s Vineyard, Laguna Dance Festival in California among others. He also participated in the Luminato Festival in Toronto, Canada. During this time he gained experience not only as a dancer, but also as a teacher, choreographer and even as artistic director.
Recently he decided to make his life in the United States and now lives in Phoenix where he hopes to continue contributing to the world of dance. He is a current member of Center Dance Ensemble, Convergence Dance Company, and was a Member of CaZo Dance in 2016.
