David Olarte

David Olarte is an urban Latin dancer who has been performing and teaching Salsa dance for the past 15 years. Olarte has performed and taught workshops both nationally and internationally as director and founder of STILO Dance Company. STILO represented USA in the finals at the 2013 World Latin Dance Cup in Miami, FL., placing 3rd in the Salsa Team Division. David was recently awarded the Arizona Latin Dance Achievement Award for his continuous effort to support and develop the Arizona Latin Dance Community.

Olarte’s passion for dance and developing community lead him to recently complete a concurrent Masters in Fine Art in Dance and a Masters in Arts in Social and Cultural Pedagogy at Arizona State University. As an ASU graduate student, he presented work at the American College Dance Festival, and was awarded ASU’s Graduate and Professional Student Association’s Teaching Excellence Award for his efforts in community social dance practices. Olarte is excited to broaden his movement vocabulary with CaZo Dance Company and continue to share with the Phoenix dance community the transformative practices of movement and in partner-work. He was a member of CaZo Dance in 2016.
